For an instant Charles had thought he had heard a small cry of pain leave Henry's lips, but as he looked up from the tray to study Henry's face he found nothing that would reveal anything of the sort. It must have simply been his imagination playing on him, his worry for the King working over time.
With a smile he placed the tray down on the table and sat in the chair that Henry had gestured to. Reaching out he picked up the jug of wine and first poured his King a mug and then himself. The strong scent of the wine instantly his his nose and he knew right away that it was a good drop. "Forgive me for the lack of food my Lord... I am not so used to kitchens." He blushed slightly in embarrassment, hiding his face as best as he could with a drink from his mug. "Though I will say the wine is quite good... it may help to ease the pain of your ankle."

"It's more than enough, my friend Charles" Henry sniffled the air when the sweet scent of the wine filled the air; God, he should have these people hanged for not bringing such a fine wine to the palace! He took in the scent before took a sip, letting the sweetness burst in his tongue and throat as he drank a little more before put it down on the table to picked up the bread; he parted it, divided the loaf into two equal size, and offered one to Charles while taking a bite of his own.
"Thank you" Henry said again, now taking the dried meat, "thank you for being a wonderful friend, Charles. I would never be here now if its not because of you."

Charles' found himself blushing, his eyes cast down upon the table. "My Lord, I have done nothing." He always found it difficult to accept praise from his friend. It was different when it was in a hunt or playing tennis or archery or some sport or the other. They were always laughing and bantering, casting the occasional praise back and forth, but this was different. This was personal, one on one, no sport simply two beloved friends talking. Truthfully Henry was where he was because of himself and no other. He was a fine man and the most handsome King. He was skilled in language and literature, warfare and politics. He knew of religion and righteousness and all matters concerning men. Charles was simply his friend and confidant.

Henry smiled as he watched the blush crept onto his friend's handsome face; oh how could he not love watching Charles blushing? He was perfect, a kind of man too fine to be just another courtier. He could dress Henry as the King of England and no one will be able to say he didn't deserve the crown. Charles, the one who could beat him in almost everything... it wasn't so hard to falling in love with him; in fact he had to muster all the effort he had to stop from falling for him. Mating is one thing... but falling in love was completely different matter.
"You saved my life, for one... Then you performed the most wonderful love making I have ever seen. Those alone enough to make me thank you forever, my friend." He took a bit of the dried meat and turned look at the fireplace, "if only I have a son, I'd wish he grow up to be like you."

Charles smiled softly, Henry's words touching his heart deeply. Such compliments from the King were one thing, but from his dear friend meant so much more. He admired Henry more than he could ever say. The man had such a strength and power within him, such determination and a strong mind. He was smarter than most gave him credit for and wiser than a lot of great noblemen.
"You will have a son Henry, soon. Katherine is a fine woman, she will conceive soon." He smiled and took a bite of bread. "And trust me, you would rather have him to be like you than I.... at least then he will have the strength to do as he pleases, rather than watching from the sidelines and dreaming."

Henry sighed as Charles said he will have a son, soon. He was right, he just married Katherine for several weeks and already he was desperate in getting an heir for continuing his legacy... His late father would laugh at his impatience if he could ever be here, or maybe even scowl him for not being able to produce the male heir his kingdom needed... He shook his head silently, deciding it must be either the pain or the wine that made him slightly sentimental about what his father would think of him.
"Somehow I wish if I ever have a son, he won't be the same man as I am" he said with a sigh, "I'm such a disgrace for my father. He hoped my brother to take over the throne, that I was prepared for career in church instead, but he died too early that my father had no other choice... Sometimes I wondered if I weren't a king, would you still care to waste your time with me, Charles?"

"Henry..." Charles sighed at his dear friends words. "Was I not friends with you BEFORE you became King?" It was true, they had been friends for several years before Henry's brother Arthur had died so young. It was not because of his crown or his jewels or money or power that Charles enjoyed Henry's company, it was simply for his friendship.
"If your father could see you now I am sure he would be proud. Look at you, strong, handsome, intelligent beyond your years. You have a beautiful Queen and the possibility of many healthy sons. England loves you Henry...." Charles quickly closed his mouth as he bit his bottom lip. Perhaps even he loved Henry also.

"You were my friend since we're just young lads" Henry said, finally smiling again as he recalled their younger years, "the friend I love more than any other friends of mine" and even more than my love for my queen, and for my whole kingdom, Henry thought. The king blushed slightly when he heard Charles' words next; strong, handsome, intelligent... He worked hard for those. All those late night studying, all those trainings. Beautiful queen and the possibility of many healthy sons were slightly relative since even from the six siblings of Henry's, only three survived infancy. He had bad feeling the same would occur to his children.
"Do you?" he asked as Charles mentioned that England loves him, "do you love me?" he asked again, trying hard to not continued with the words he wanted to speak the most at the moment--because I do you.

A tongue darted out over his warm lips as Charles slowly raised his deep blue eyes to look at Henry. "Yes..." he whispered softly, his fingers curling against his knee gripping it so tightly that his knuckles started to turn white. "You are my King, my most dearest friend, my.... I love you with every breath that I take and will follow you anywhere Henry, you know this already."

"I know... I love you too" Henry blurted out as he sipped his wine again, hoping he didn't hear what he just saying. What did he just said, he loved Charles too? Had he lost his mind?! Though he realized he must have lost his mind since he slept with his best friend... He hoped even if Charles heard it he will just think Henry loved him as a friend. As the king's most trusted friend. He sighed before he turned to the fireplace. "You know today changed everything, don't you?" he asked, "that after today I will often invite you for more private meetings, or drag you somewhere just to kiss you..."

Charles couldn't help the small smile that crept over his lips as Henry confessed his love for him. It may have only been a few words and quite sudden but Charles has still heard it. He would not expect anything less from his beloved friend and King. Impulsiveness seemed to be in his nature and if he was not acting that way then certainly something was wrong!
"My Lord" Charles smiled coyly, "I would not expect anything less of you." He took another drink of his wine before continuing. "I shall come to enjoy our meetings with great delight."
